Acupuncture
Acupuncture is a health care approach that focuses on the relationship between the body's subtle energy and it’s physiology, and how this relationship affects health. In 2003 the World Health Organization (WHO) evaluated the results of all controlled clinical trials spanning six years and listed acupuncture’s effectiveness of various health challenges. A few of the diseases, symptoms or conditions for which acupuncture has been proved-through controlled trials to be an effective treatment are: Dysmenorrhoea, Neck pain, Headache, Knee pain, Morning sickness, and Rheumatoid arthritis.
The WHO also recommends the use of Acupuncture for Acute sinusitis, Common cold, Tennis Elbow, Sciatica, Low back pain, Migraines, Diabetes Mellitus - non-insulin-dependent, Female infertility, Labor pain and Premenstrual syndrome.
What we do
Although Acupuncture has been shown to be effective for many conditions, our main objective is to restore balance in the body through the restoration of the subtle energy flow of the body. We can help with most chronic pain and specialize in balancing female chemistry.
In traditional Chinese medicine, health results from a harmonious balance between the complementary extremes (yin and yang) of the life force known as qi or chi. Qi is believed to flow through pathways (meridians) in your body. These meridians and the energy flow are accessible through more than 350 acupuncture points. Illness results from an imbalance of the forces. By inserting needles into these points in various combinations, acupuncture practitioners believe that your energy flow will rebalance.
Many Western practitioners view the acupuncture points as places to stimulate nerves, muscles and connective tissue. This stimulation appears to boost the activity of your body's natural painkillers and increase blood flow.
Acupuncture therapy usually involves a series of weekly or biweekly treatments done right here in our office. Before the needles are placed, you'll lie down on a comfortable surface. Depending on where the needles are to go, you will lay face down, face-up or on your side. Josephine will use single-use sterile packaged needles. You may feel a brief, sharp sensation when the needle is inserted, but generally the procedure isn't painful.

Heidi's love for acupuncture and herbal medicine began while living in Korea and traveling throughout Asia and Central America. During her travels, she studied martial arts, Western and Eastern herbology, and gained knowledge of Traditional Mayan Medicine from indigenous healers of Belize.
As a mother herself, Heidi takes great joy in helping her patients to achieve their dreams of creating a family. She is dedicated to supporting healthy pregnancies from start to finish. Her knowledge and experience in acupuncture, Chinese herbs, and Zen Fertility Yoga comes from advanced post-graduate training, a mentorship with fertility expert, Julie Chang, L.Ac., and specialized training to prevent recurrent miscarriage, support Assisted Reproductive Techniques, and help patients to conceive naturally. Heidi has successfully helped numerous patients grow their families.
Heidi compassionately supports her patients throughout their struggle to conceive. She developed a program to help patients process their mental-emotional stress associated with infertility thereby increasing their chances of conceiving. The program includes reflective exercises, fertility meditations and visualizations, relationship exercises, and Zen Fertility Yoga for improving reproductive health. It helps participants to find joy and peace during their fertile journey as well as play a key role in successfully conceiving.
Heidi is currently compiling a book and Zen Fertility Yoga DVD so that the program is widely available to those trying to conceive. She also offers personal Zen Fertility Coaching Sessions during the program to provide individualized support and guidance.
